How is an hourly project started?

I've been chatting with a client in the UW chat and agreed to start an hourly project, is he supposed to start a contract or something? Or should I just start working (and use the UW tracker app)? THX!

Julian:

The client clicks a button labelled "Hire".

This sends a message to you and also causes an "offer" to show up on your Upwork site.

When you look at the offer on your side, you see a green "Accept Offer" button.

After you click that button, you will see the job listed here:

Upwork -> My Jobs -> My Jobs

Then you can start working.

Never do any work without a contract. If you do, you will not get paid.

Won’t do, thanks!

Hi Julian,

Please do not work on any project until a client has sent you an offer, you have accepted it, it's showing on your My Jobs page as an active contract, and the client's payment method is verified.

On hourly contracts, it is best to log time with the Upwork Desktop App. You can read more about payments, protection for Hourly contracts and the Weekly Billing Cycle here.

Thank you!
