How to Identify if Im speaking with scammersķ

I sent a proposal to**Edited for Community Guidelines****Edited for Community Guidelines** sent me a message in upwork asking for my Resume. So then I sent my CV to him and after less than 24hrs, **Edited for Community Guidelines** sent me an invite for an interview with Hiring manager in Telegram tomorrow 23 August 2022 10AM PHL time. Do you think its a scam or not?

Yes, without a doubt it is a scam. If anyone wants you to speak with them using Line, Telegram, or Whatsapp before a contract on Upwork is in place it is safe to consider it a scam. If anyone tells you to send them a fee then it is 100% a scam. Remember, freelancers don't give clients money...ever.

Yes. This is another popular scam. Just remember clients should be paying us, not the other way around.

Hi Dea Kristine,

It's most likely a scam since the client is asking you to interview via Telegram. It's also a violation of the Upwork Terms of Service (ToS) to talk to clients using outside communications channels (you communicate about jobs via Upwork messaging and Upwork's own Zoom app).

Wes, one of the freelancers, wrote this great article on how to spot red flags for scams.  I think it should be required reading for anyone who starts a new account on Upwork. Unfortunately, scam job posting are now rampant on the platform.  But there are still real jobs. It's just that you need to be able to filter them.

If you're new to the platform, you should also get to know Upwork's legal pages and learn about how fixed-price and hourly contracts work. The best place to start with the legal information is the Terms of Use. This contains plain-language descriptions of what freelancers and clients can and can't do on the platform. Having a good base of knowledge will really help you to stay safe working on Upwork.

Adding to what the others have said: To some extent you can protect yourself from scammers, by knowing how the site works (read the terms of service) and that it is a violation of Upwork's rules and regs to communicate in any way (like sharing emails, sending CVs, giving media contacts,  or having Telegram conversations) before an official Upwork contract is in place.  If a client suggests this, report him or her and refuse to go any further with the interview
