How to know whether the job is still open or not?

I was going to bid for a job but then I found that "Activity on the job" displayed "2 Hires". In the job details, it has not been mentioned that total how many freelancers would be hired.

Should I still apply for this job or not? Is it necessary for employers to close the job advertisement once their search is over? I find a lot of old jobs open even after a long time.

Yes you can still apply for the job! You'll see a notice announcing that the job has been closed in orange print if you go directly to the posting.

If you have clicked on the heart to save the job for later, you can then go to the navigation bar at the top under Find Work>Saved Jobs. You'll see at a quick glance if the job has been closed or not.

Another good way to see if a job is active or not after you've submitted a proposal to it is to go to Find Jobs>Proposals. What first pops up are all your proposed-upon jobs that are STILL OPEN and active. But you'll see an "archived" tab under "My Proposals." Here you'll see if a job has been closed.
