I believe im being scammed

Im new to upwork and submited a proposal to this Web Development job. This **Edited for Community Guidelines** messaged me to an interview via Google Hangouts with the email **Edited for Community Guidelines** After undergoing an hour long interview I was offered a position to work on Transcom Worldwide as a Web Developer but failed to provide oficial company documentation and/or contract. They also asked for my full address (which I did not give) and proceded to inform that I would need to buy supplies from oficial vendor which was the last red flag I needed to skip out. Hope nobody gets to waste their time with this guy again.

If you are in the USA and get an invite from a client with an unverified payment method asking for a Hangout interview, it is 100% the check scam, which is as old as the hills.

Asking for an interview via Hangouts is usually a certainty that it's a scam. Why scammers prefer that over something like Skype, I'll never know, but that's how it goes.

But yeah, everything you described is straight out of the proverbial "scammer's handbook." It's incredibly easy to see through, but it must work at least SOME of the time, or they wouldn't do it.

Don't forget to flag the job post, not to let this person scam other freelancers.

Have confidence in your belief.

Bryan (and all other newbies):

interview via Google Hangouts = SCAM

asked for my full address = SCAM

need to buy supplies from oficial vendor = SCAM

re: "After undergoing an hour long interview..."

Good news:

You have fortunately learned your lesson and will never waste so much time with a scammer again.

Hi Bryan,

I'm glad you're one of the ones who got away. And good on you for doing it after an hour-long interview. That might throw a lot of people.

I think it's worth checking out the other scam stories people have posted on the forum, just to familiarize yourself with some the issues other FLs have had (just type SCAM into the search box above and you can find all kinds of stuff). It's also a really good idea to make sure you're familiar with the User Agreement, the Site Terms of Use, and the escrow system so you can avoid other types of problems on the site.

Finally, if someone offers to sell you one, a Bosnian work permit is a really bad investment.
