I do not understant what PING means

I received an invitation and it says "Please ping me so we can talk more about this project" but PING is the thing that i dont understand. Is it like a DM or something ?

Jennifer he/she is saying Message me. Ping you can say a short form of DM or Message 🙂

If a client wants to talk to you, they'll open a message board and you can respond there. There is no way for you to message a client first.
