I have joined upwork some years back and always end up in spam. I am wondering how to get the work?

I have been looking out for freeelancing projects since a while and always end up

1. in either getting into spam stuff.
2. No work
3. not legimate
4. no payment 

Wondering if there is way to get  genuine task to take up here and if yes, please help me with your advice.
