I scored high on all sections of a test, but still failed?

I took the email ettiquette test. There are four sections. I scored the following:

I scored 80-100% on all sections but got a 2.25?

When I compare to somone else who did worse on each section, they got a 4.15. Why did this happen? I feel like I deserve a higher overall score.

Hi Peter,

Sorry, I see that there is an issue with the test scoring and have escalated your concern with the team who is looking into it further.

I hope a mod sees this. Simple math says that while the comparison test was ultimately scored correctly (4.15), yours SHOULD have been 4.5. There's clearly something buggy in the software. Have you tried opening a help ticket?

A-HA! There's a misplaced decimal in the scoring algorithm. It SOMEHOW misinterpreted your 4.5 stars as 45%.

Hi Peter,

Test scores will vary because of the tests using adaptive testing which is a form of computer-based testing that adapts to the examinee's ability level. This basically means that when taking a test, if the user answers a question correctly they may receive a more challenging question, while an incorrect answer generates an easier question. By adapting to the user as the assessment is taking place, these assessments present an individually tailored set of questions and can quickly identify which skills the user has mastered or what level they are at. The test stops when it asseses that the user would not score better than the level they are at. So different users will get a different number and level of questions, users do not receive exactly the same test.

Why does it say how many items the test will contain prior to taking it then? It said there would be 35 items, and there were exactly that many.

Nina --

Did you look at the actual attached images? It doesn't NEED to be the same test. His SCORES are not accurately reflected in the final scoring average. Somebody messed up.

There is literally nothing in your explanation that accounts for why it would score a clear 90% average (4.5 out of 5) as 2.25.

I guess the "nearest template" wasn't quite near enough.

Something went wrong there. However, Upwork have little to do with the tests, as they are administered by a third party. This should e escalated to Expertrating to look into, and the OPs test reset so he can retake it.

The Top Whatever Percentile could be poor even when the actual results were high, but the numerical score result is clearly wrong.
