Hi Kevin,

I checked your account and can see that you just recently sent an offer to the freelancer. I'd like to clarify that we are unaware of how long it takes for freelancers to respond to clients. Hopefully, this freelancer will reply to you soon.

In the meantime, you may want to check out the "Client" section of this post, where we compiled resources for new clients and freelancers to help you get started on Upwork.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need further help with anything.

Kevin, this is up to you.

It is not an Upwork-decided amount of time.

As a client, I once fired a freelancer five minutes after I hired him, because he wasn't ready to work with me. My job posting specifically stated that I needed someone ready to work with me via screensharing "right now." I fired the first freelancer and hired someone else.

I routinely post jobs that require freelancers to be ready to work "right now." There are freelancers who are accustomed to working that way and look forward to doing so.

If you don't want to wait, you don't need to.

Close the contract and assign the work to someone else.

Or in your case, because you have not officially hired this person yet, you may withdraw the offer and hire someone else.
