'Legal Name of Business' if I don't have a business

Hi.

I live in the Netherlands and I am not registered as a freelancer, nor do I have a VAT. Can I still get paid through UpWork? If so, what should I add under Legal Name of Business, if I don't have a business?

Thank you!

Hi Laura,

You'll still have access to your Upwork earnings as long as you complete W-8BEN form and you can use your own legal name as it appears in your passport or other official documents. You may need to consult a local tax adviser about proper ways to report your Upwork income to your country's tax authorities. Upwork will charge the VAT specific to Netherlands for the services provided to you by Upwork unless you provide a valid VAT number.
