Locked out of Upwork because of old account

I have an old Upwork account that I can't access, but it uses my phone number.  I think I can't access it b/c my new account uses sign-in with Google and "shadows" the email address of the old account.  In any case, when I try to make the new account profile it says "This [phone] number is being used by another account". So I can't access the platform until the old account is removed or its phone number is changed.  Can you help me with this?
