Misleading Clients List

Due to the lack of transparency of UpWork and how JSS affects freelancers through no fault of their own I am starting a list of misleading clients so that people can check at least in advance If they are applying for a misleading client and don't waste Connects (this is the way UpWork makes money)

So please feel free to add yours

Hi Benito,

I am sorry to hear about your experience and how you feel about it. I appreciate your effort in opening a discussion in the community to help other freelancers. However, I regret to inform you that listing the names of clients can lead to misunderstandings and also violates our community guidelines.

Instead, I recommend reporting the job post directly to our Trust & Safety team by using the 'Flag as Inappropriate'. You can refer to this course for more tips on staying safe on Upwork and use the flag option found on each job post or message anytime you’d like to report a violation.

I can't agreee with you Pradeep

I got a bad private review for an upaid contract, beleiving this sentence that is still in my profile is true

"Only jobs with payments within the past 24 months will impact your score. Some jobs are considered ineligible and won’t factor into your score."

There is no mention there about private reviews, although I know now you apply that (I am new into UpWork). So what happens is that you mislead me and then this affect my currect JSS. I have been obliged to cancel ongoing good contracts so that I can recover my JSS by getting positives reviews (still pending) that will allow me to win more contracts. With 43% JSS there is no way on using my connects to apply. I also canceled my UpWork pro suscription

So you tell me it is a good practice to mislead freelancers? You tell me that a person who is new a believe UpWork statements on the profile will get surprises like reducing my JSS? And on top of that a client can comment privately and I have to chance to compain against that?

Does it make sense to cancel ongoing contracts just to recover the JSS?

What I am asking here is to correct my JSS based on my fair behaviour following your rules. As UpWork Support is not doing it I will collect clients names. If not here in the channels. privately approaching freelancers on private messages.

Now I can stop If UpWork applies common sense in this case, as I didn't breach any rules, on contrary I followed it like in the sentence

"Only jobs with payments within the past 24 months will impact your score. Some jobs are considered ineligible and won’t factor into your score."

Are you going to correct the sentence anytime for future freelancers?

Thank you for following up, Benito.

As a fellow freelancer, I understand that Job Success Score is important, so I would like to share more information on how it works. I would like to clarify that your JSS reflects your overall contract history with your clients on Upwork and is based on your (or your agency's) relationships and feedback. It takes into consideration several different factors, including public and private feedback, contract-ending history, dispute history, and long-term customer relationships. As a freelancer, you can get direct insight into why your JSS may have changed through Job Success Insights.

Please know that your JSS can change because:

  • You receive poor public or private feedback from one or more clients
  • You receive very positive public or private feedback from one or more clients
  • Past jobs are no longer considered because they fall outside the 24-month timeframe

You may want to check this help article for more information on why your JSS changed. I see that you also have an open ticket with our team about your concern. If you have further questions, I encourage you to follow up with our team directly, and they will be happy to help. You can access your tickets on this page.

Additionally, I see that you are new to Upwork, so I would recommend you check the available learning paths in the Academy section to help you get a successful start on Upwork.

Edited to add information.

Hi Nikola

Yes I have a ticket but no solution. Again, I repeat, this sentence is in my profile

"Only jobs with payments within the past 24 months will impact your score. Some jobs are considered ineligible and won’t factor into your score."

I do not need further links, as I already have been informed about the mess of rules you have.

My requirement. As I am new I believe the above statement is true, but it is not as there are hidden rules.

So this is your mistake and you shall be able to correct it. I would understand you do not correct If I do not read the rules, but this is not the case. UpWork claims always transparecy, so I am being transparent here. How about applying it?

This is a labor of Sisyphus, Benito. There are hundreds of scammers every day, and it is the responsibility of freelancers to vet them - or at least study the Academy.

You can't control when UpWork does not fulfill its own rules. Support admitted me the mistake of this sentece on my profile. The one that lead to this situation. They say the will correct it. But still my JSS will not be corrected

"Only jobs with payments within the past 24 months will impact your score. Some jobs are considered ineligible and won’t factor into your score."

Look what the JSS video says. The missing part? ... and no private feedback. So If I see this video and also the above sentence, what shall I think?

Who is Sisyphus here?

Looking at how you mix two separate subjects, I believe I'm off this conversation. My comment was about a "misleading clients list".

I want to develop that list but UpWork has banned it. The reason I would like to do it is the misleading practices from UpWork as clients can do whatever they want apparently at no costs...
