My first week in upwork

I uploaded my first job to look for a freelancer.

I am really not sure how it works but i did a few interviews and the freelancers did ask for my sourcecode. I am in a limbo as without it they cant test out my site to check for the loading time and slowness so i gave it to them after they signed nda many gave reasons for not doing after getting my sourcecode or just not responding after getting it.

Kenny:
Welcome to Upwork.

It sounds like you are doing relatively well as a new client.

You are learning your way around the Upwork user interface. That is good.

And you found the Community Forum. That is great!

The Forum is a very active, helpful place.

You should feel free to ask all kinds of Upwork questions here. You can get a lot of advice, and it is completely free.

Your site IS slow. I don't doubt it.

You want to make your site run faster.

MANY site owners come to Upwork and get excellent help optimizing the speed of their sites.

You have allowed some freelancers to look at your site, and they didn't want to work on your project. That is fine. That is very normal.

You need to keep looking for people who can help you.

I recommend that you set up an hourly contract and use that to hire a few people who will be willing to look at your site and NOT DO ANY WORK on it, but who are willing to talk to you as consultants and/or write up written recommendations for how you can speed up your site.

I am going to give you some free advice about your site's speed problems:

The main "speed bottlenecks" for sites like yours are (listed in order of importance):

- sub-optimal database design

- problematic SQL queries

- problematic non-SQL application source code

- server choice and server configuration

You MIGHT wish to hire people who will look at your non-SQL source code and server configuration, but that is rarely where you will get the "most bang for your buck." What will probably benefit you the most is hiring a database specialist who will provide you with a review of your database schema, and POSSIBLY your SQL queries.

If you are using Wordpress, then you already know that Wordpress is designed for "ease of development" and "ease of setting up a site." It is not intended to be fast. So if optimizing speed is a priority, then the simplest solution to really boost your speed will be to eliminate Wordpress elements from your site.
