New Freelancer and Cover Letter

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a great weekend.

I joined Upwork in April and have written many proposals to get jobs, but I haven’t been successful so far. I recently discovered that on Upwork, proposals from freelancers without reviews end up at the bottom of the list.

Some friends suggested using AI to create proposals and bid quickly, which could increase my visibility to clients. However, I really dislike this approach and prefer to submit proposals manually. I believe that AI-generated bids don’t accurately reflect my true expertise and experience. Also, it is an act of deceiving clients.

So, what should I do? I would love to hear advice from clients.

Thank you!

I agree with you.

Also, your decision to write a cover letter without using AI is really appreciated by clients like me.

We waste a lot of time sifting through AI-generated proposals.

Thank you.

But why doesn’t the client see it, even though I mentioned the exact solution in the first sentence? I think it’s because most of my proposals are placed at the bottom.

In short: it is random. Possible that someone else also mentioned the solution before. Or client prefer someone by photo. Or it was fake client with fake job. Anything possible. Be ready that 99 of your proposals will be never even seen. Its okay here within past times.

IvygailJ,
I understand your feelings about using AI for proposals and I have found
that I can submit proposals quickly by formatting a cover letter as follows.

Greeting
*Statement that I understand their job with a very brief summary of their
job goal.
A section titled "What you can expect if you hire me" followed by a bullet
list of factual information about my qualifications and previous job
experience
*Any detail that needs to be addressed, such as the way you prefer to bill,
or your ability to meet their deadline, etc.
I look forward to discussing this with you.
Thank you and signature.

Most of this can be made in advance and saved, then copy and paste and used
over and over for various jobs. The starred items can be individualized for
each particular job.
Hope this helps.
