New to Upwork Need Some help

Hi Upwork Colleagues, I'm new to Upwork. I read my articles on how to write cover letters but after sending 50+ proposals, I just got 2 responses. I need your help with how to write a cover letter as a graphic designer? I hope you will help me by sharing some tips. Thanks

I don't think your cover letter is the problem. In your overview, you claim that you can "design anything" yet the only examples in your portfolio are logos and one business card that look like they were done in Canva. (And you should look up the meaning of the phrase "minimalist design" because this does not describe your style at all.) You also say that you're a specialist in a long list of different skills. Saying that you do all sorts of different things is the exact opposite of being a specialist - what this really says to clients is that you're not an expert at anything.

Also, your first project was for a logo design, yet the image you attached to your review is just four random mock-ups, obviously not a real logo that was designed for an actual business. The images that you attach to a review are supposed to be the work that you designed for that specific client, otherwise it gives the wrong impression.

You either need to work on your portfolio so that you have 4-5 samples of each type of service that you're offering, or take those skills out of your overview and don't bid on those types of jobs. Design clients care much more about your portfolio than they do about your cover letter.

As a client, I hire a lot of visual artists, including graphic designers, cartoonists and illustrators.

I look at their portfolios. I don't read their cover letters.

I like to see portfolio pieces that I can tell represent their own artistry and design sense. I don't like to see portfolio pieces that appear to be nothing more than the product of an automated tool or template.
