New to Upwork and not getting any job

Hi! My name is Fatin, the video animator.

I already optimise my profile and put my past project to my portfolio. I also do the bidding for the proposal, which mostly is being archived and rejected. Why it is hard to get my first job here compared to Fiverr (where it only took 2 weeks when I got my first order)?

Hi Fatin, I've also been wondering about how to land a first job. Thanks for posting the question.

Jeff

Hey Jeff, you do have a completed job on your profile.. if your client is still available, you can request that they leave you a feedback as that would help you increase your chances of getting more clients.
You have got me wondering how you put in that trophy on your introduction there, sometimes i feel so backward when i see what others do with what seemingly was a plain textbox.

Hi Luqman, Thanks for your comments. That one client was from several years ago and is long gone. The trick with the emoji in the intro took a bit of experimenting to figure out. I discovered that if I type in gmail, I can add the emojiis there and then copy and paste into Upwork. It's a bit of a hack but it (mostly) works. Have fun with it!

Jeff, you should set up a specialised profile just for packaging design, and maybe another one for branding. Upwork is all about finding your niche; you need to position yourself as an expert at something specific.

Thanks for the suggestion. I spent a chunk of time doing just that yesterday. I continue to tinker with my profile to see what works. I also just created a very focused Upwork Project listing to see if that brings in any leads.

You mean your second job? It's a shame you didn't get feedback, it would really help.

It's been a long, long dry spell since that one client!

I do not know a thing about fivr but it sometimes take abit of time to get some traction here on Upwork.
For now, your profile is not set to public so no one in the community can have a look , so maybe try changing your profile visibility.

Thanks, I will try to reset my profile.

Reputation is the key. Zero history? Gain reputation with a very good written and detailed proposal, low price is ok.. but not too much.. or they may think You are tooooooooooooo scarce.. read the request and let customer realize that you care for details and you  have already good reputation in FIVERR ...

Thanks, I will take that advice.

Well, well well... This is common with lots of newbies on Upwork like me as well. I am continuously updating my profile and taking guidance from Seniors. So hopefully good bidding on projects would result in an interview with a client on any day. Hoping for the best and working correctly.
