New to Upwork - looking for tips on finding work

Hi all,

I'm pleased and excited to have joined Upwork earlier this month.

After submitting about 20 proposals, though, I still have not received interest from a client.

I was wondering if anyone who has had success could offer some tips on proposals -- e.g., is getting boosted really worth it, is availability really worth it, etc.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Best,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome to Upwork! As a new freelancer, it can be challenging to get your first clients on the platform. However, with persistence and some strategy, you can start landing contracts.

Regarding your question, getting boosted or having availability can be useful to get more visibility and increase your chances of getting hired, but they're not essential. What is most important is to craft personalized and well-written proposals that showcase your skills and qualifications for the specific job you're applying for.

Here are some tips to improve your proposals:

  1. Tailor your proposals to the job requirements and client needs.
  2. Highlight your relevant skills and experience for the job.
  3. Use a professional and friendly tone in your proposal.
  4. Show that you've read and understood the job description.
  5. Provide samples of your previous work, if possible.
  6. Offer a competitive but reasonable price for the job.
  7. Follow up with the client after submitting the proposal.

Keep in mind that building a strong profile with a good portfolio and taking relevant tests to showcase your skills can also increase your chances of getting hired.

Best of luck with your job search!

Regards,

Sanaullah Khan
