Hi! I am new to Upwork and I really have second thoughts on someone who messaged me here for a job. Now, it didn't appear on Invitations, and we started the training right away via skype and they even let me download privatetunnel not sure if that's safe coz that's something I've just heard of. I asked for a contract and also asked for the mode of payment, they told me it will be discussed later. I don't know what steps to take. However I did download privatetunnel. Please help me.

You're being scammed. Stop communicating with this "client" and report them.

Thank you, Virginia. How do you know that? Is it because if someone wants to hire you, they have to go through Invitations first?

But was privatetunnel safe? I could get rid of it and have no problems with it, right?

lol so what are they having you do with that software? I'm guessing click ads or make fraud accounts?

Hi Jennifer,

Not sure what they would have to do with it though. But yeah, I think the fraud account would be the reason why. I cancelled my account though from private tunnel and uninstalled it.

I have no idea what privatetunnel is, I just know I would never download software a stranger asked me to download.

If you are hired, the job will be under "My Jobs" on your account page. You may want to read up on how things work before you do anything else:

I really shouldn't have downloaded it but I googled the software first and found it was harmless. It's actually creating a whole new VPN so you won't be traced you're not from the United States. I cancelled my account though from private tunnel and uninstalled it. Hopefully it won't haunt me. Thanks for the links, Virginia Smiley Happy

Hi Yasmine,

You should not begin working on a contract until an official offer is sent on the Upwork platform. As for the software you downloaded, im not familair with it but would recommend that you uninstall and do a websearch on what it is. Could you also share the job's link so that we can review the job post and client.

Lena,

I googled it and cancelled my account from private tunnel and uninstalled it as well. This is the link to the project: https://www.upwork.com/ab/proposals/870649896783896576

I don't know how to report someone Smiley Sad

Hi Yasmine,

Can you please copy the job link (url should begin with https://www.upwork.com/jobs/...) for the job post? Another option is to select "flag as inappropriate" from the job post itself in the upper right corner.
