I am just doing my first project on Upwork and setting up payment but I have run in to a problem with VAT.

I am not liable for VAT in the UK due to my income being below the threshold and so do not have a VAT number.

How should I go about doing this on upwork? There doesn't seem to be be an option for this.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, you do have to pay VAT.

You pay VAT on goods and services day in, day out. Every time you walk into Tesco's or buy something in Argos or Boots you pay VAT.

The VATyou pay on Upwork is just on the service fee, and yes, you pay it.

Not being VAT registered just means you are not charging VAT on your services.

It does not mean you don't have to pay VAT when you buy something.
