Order processing--nervous about giving a stranger my credit card info!

Hi, I'm new here because I need to hire someone for a few minutes per day to process orders for me while I'm gone.   In order for this person to do that, they'd need to know my logins for my dropshippers and also my credit card info.  This is not something I normally would give out to a stranger! How do I know I'm protected from fraud or the selling of my information?

Thank you!

Aimee:

There are many viable alternatives fo you.

But the information you can obtain in this Forum is limited.

You need to go to the Shopify user forum, or post an hourly job on Upwork.com to hire a Shopify consultant.

If you are talking about a limited number of vendors, you can make arrangements with them, such as to use P.O.s

This is not an Upwork question.

We can discuss your question, even though it has nothing to do with Upwork.

But I just want to be clear that Upwork is not is associated with the companies you use to process your shipping. Moreover, I can assure you that Upwork does not offer protection from fraud or misconduct in relation to freelancers you hire to work on your project.

A key piece of information that you may need to focus on is this:

Leading vendors of shipping services provide ways that site owners can delegate authority to individuals, without having access to all information. Many vendors that you might be intersted in using will allow you to store credit card information in a way that nobody who works for you can see it. Also, it is possible to set up development instances of your site which use fake credit card numbrs (provided by the vendor) for testing functionality. You are using certain services right now, correct? Check the websites and information resources for those service to find out more.

There are many ways that you can hire people to work for you without exposing key credentials to them.

The information you can receive here in the Forum about this topic is limited. You may wish to hire specialists with expertise in this area who can help you. You can post your question as an hourly job on the main site at http://upwork.com

When you post the job, specifically state that you are hiring people to provide you with consultation, and they will not be doing any actual work.

Hire 4 different people and talk to them via Zoom for 30 minutes each.

Thank you.  I think there's been a misunderstanding.  I should clarify that I'm not looking for someone to physically ship a product or do any shipping.   What I am looking for is a freelancer to process orders on my Shopify ecommerce store, which would involve going to my vendors'  website to pay for the product the customer has purchased.

My credit card information always needs to be verified when I make an order, but perhaps there is a way around this so that the freelancer doesn't see my credit card.

Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Thanks Preston.  I hadn't thought of utilizing the Shopify community.

I'll check that out, too.

I have someone that I've been corresponding with here who I may hire, but I guess it comes down to being concerned about handing over private info to a stranger, and wondering if Upwork had any protection policies in place for clients.

Hi Aimee,

I'm not sure if I have the right help article from Shopify, but I found this, and I hope it helps.

To add to what Preston shared, you may want to post a job in the marketplace and consult with e-commerce experts on how you can set up your account or provide alternative solutions to your question.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Avery! That's very helpful.

I'll have to do that if I end up hiring a VA to help while I'm gone.

I'll reach out to my vendors and see how I can have orders processed without having to enter credit card info.
