Profile Marked Private Wrongly

Hello,

 

I am currently in the middle of doing my first paid project with Upwork, but I was just marked "Private" due to supposed inactivity. In addition to that, today I just verified my identity and now have the verified checkmark next to my name. How can I get my profile set back to "Public"?

Hi Michele,

 

First off, congratulations on landing your first project, and wish you nothing but success! I've proceeded to reset your profile visibility back to "public". You may want to check this help article for the reasons why your profile can be changed to "private".

Thank you. I assume what's going on is that the Upwork system wants me to
have a paid membership. I kept trying for a paid project for several months
and in the last month -- less than 90 days ago --I was put to private. I
finally GET a job AND verify my ID and then get put to private. Makes no
sense. So all signs are indicating, that Upwork is going to hassle me into
a paid membership.

I just wanted to make sure I could make money on the site before paying. It
took me a long time to get the first -- longer than expected. So I guess
I'll go ahead and get a membership.

Paid membership has nothing to do with it. What happens is if you go 30 days without receiving a payment, the system flips your profile to 'private'. Clients who receive proposals from you can still access your profile, you just won't come up in search results. All you have to do when this happens is request that UW switch it back.

 

The reason for this is so many zillions of FLs join the platform and then never get any traction...they are unqualified or ill-equipped and many just abandon their accounts. To prevent clients from having to saerch through all that dreck, UW switches non-earning FLs to private on the assumption the ones who are actually active will squeak and get switched back. It can be annoying but it alleviates a major headache for clients, and they're who bring the money.

I am also starting an interview with a client and my account was changed to private. How can I get my account back to public?

I have same issue and also complete the job but still my profile is under 'private'. I think something is wrong.
