Query - Milestone Payments

What to do if a client, after awarding the project, insists to make payment after completion of the project and no milestone payments?

Not accept the contract until it is set up the way the client and I agreed and everything is funded as discussed.

Rana:

I'm a big beliver in breaking down projects into small milestones, especially with a new client that you haven't worked with before.

Not all clients know how to respect fixed-price contracts.

If you make sure you start with small milestones, only an hour or two worth of work, then you can very QUICKLY find out if this is a client who can be trusted with fixed-price contracts.

Does the client accept your work, and release payment?

Or does the client give you all kinds of grief about it, ask for new things never specified in the contract, and take up far more of your time than you ever expected?

Don't you want to find out which type of client this is before you have put weeks of effort into this project?

With a new, unfamiliar client, don't agree to a big fixed-price project that doesn't pay out any money until the very end. Require small milestones.
