Question about a '"Hire"

I'm fairly new to Upwork and hopefully I'll get everything figured out eventually.

I was hired by a client to create a large poster, but she would like to start with two hours of work for me to review a presentation brochure and get an idea of who they are and create a draft of an 8x10 poster.

The contract says it doesn't start until 2 days from now, but do I go ahead and create the small poster? And will I be paid?

You can not get paid for working on a contract that has not started yet.

The client can wait for you to start working when the contract starts.

Hi Barbara,

It would be best to start working on the contract when the contract has already started (14-August), and when you are able to start logging time on your Work Diary. If you start working now, you are at risk of not meeting the requirements for the Hourly Protection program.

I would recommend that you read up on these freelancer resources and these tips for avoiding questionable jobs, for help getting started, and for more information about working safely through Upwork.
