Receipt

Hi

I did a job for Upwork. Do I have to send a receipt to someone? Upwork, client?
How do I declare what I earned on Upwork to my IRS? I'm from Portugal, EU.
Thank you for your help.

I don't.

I have completed over 200 jobs, and never sent a receipt to anybody.

Clients have a whole set of receipts and reports that they can access and download, all of which are atomatically generated.

Upwork doesn't provide tax consulting, if that's what you're looking for.

Upwork encourages you to consult with local experts and officials to answer those questions.

You can also look up information on the official websites posted by your local jurisdiction's tax organizations.

You can also hire consultants and experts using this site: http://www.upwork.com

As has been pointed out to you over and over again for years now: For freelancers in Europe what you do in Arizona could not possibly be any less relevant. EU freelancers have no choice, so whether you do or not matters not one iota. And you know that perfectly well.

So, why in the world do you feel that overwhelming urge to pretend that you don't, again, and again, and again?

Do European-based freelancers need to send receipts to clients?

I though that Upwork already generated invoices and other reports that meet the clients' needs.

You thought wrong (as has also been pointed out to you over and over again for years now)

The OP also did not ask whether invoices met the client's need (which depends on the client's location) but his own legal obligations.

This, too, has been painstakingly explained to you numerous times for years.

As you well know.

Thank you for the correction.

There is no excuse for not remembering something like that.

But it does make me wonder why Upwork doesn't offer something that meets the receipt needs of Europe-based clients and freelancers.

No, it's not sheer malice.
I just did a job on Upwork and I want to know what happens.
It was my first job online and abroad.
What I don't want is the IRS on my back.
Either I have to declare something to the IRS of my country, or I don't have to. And that is what I want to know.
Basically, when I do a job in Portugal and I get the money I deliver a receipt. My question is simple: do I have to give a receipt to Upwork or to the customer? Yes or no.
