The dos and donts?

I've just registred Today and applied to three gigs (small & fixed rates (5 connects)) to rep up but haven't gotten a reply yet (even though it's only been a couple of hours :)) )

When writing the cover letter, I've noticed that I was warened no to send personal projects/dev platforms I'm active on (stack exchange, github, etc.); anything identifiable that violates the TOS. I didn't  but I'm afraid it will lower the chances of getting noticed. 

My public profile is somewhat barebones (listed only skills and no portofolio). 

How should a portofolio look for a software developer?
