Time Tracker App--Windows Vista

I have an older laptop running on Windows Vista and am unable to download the time tracker app.  Every time I try it gives me an error stating that entry point could not be found.  Any ideas other than buying a new laptop?  I wanted to get a job complete today and now I'm not sure how to log time without being vulnerable with my time not being protected.

Sorry, it won't work on Vista. Either work fixed rate contracts or drag yourself , kicking and screaming, into the second decade of the 21st century 😄

Hi Crystal,

I checked this with the Technical Support Team and they advised that the Upwork Desktop App is no longer supported in Windows Vista. The app only works on Windows 7 and up. A suggestion would be to upgrade your machine's OS to Windows 7 or higher.

Crystal,

I'm not sure you can update to Windows 7 (already obsolete), but if you update anything, make sure that every single item on your computer is backed up. I would also strongly suggest that you have your computer professionally updated and take it to a specialist. Or - buy a new computer - which could be the cheaper option. Don't cut corners on precious files that could be lost forever . . .

Hi, I am in similar situation, I have to work on old notebook with Windows Vista for next 2 weeks as my normal one crushed down. So I want to download older version of Upwork App to be able to install it on my Vista system. Can someone provide me with old Upwork App exe file? Please help as I can not proceed with my hourly contract.. 😞

re: "Can someone provide me with old Upwork App exe file?"

That's not likely.

Might not even work even if you were able to install it.

The Upwork desktop application works in conjunction with the Upwork website. It is not independent.

Anna & Crystal, unless you can buy or borrow a newer computer, the only way you can work hourly is to record time manually using your work diary, if the client permits it, bearing in mind that manual hours have no payment protection so you won’t get a dime if the client disputes the hours.

Im having this issue, were you able to continue working with manual time entry? I am in a contract, I do not want to lose my position due to this.

If your contract allows it you can do manual time but you should know you have no protection.  Client can dispute those hours and you will lose.

I hope the Win7 people realize Windows 7 will be deprecated and not safe as of Jan 2020 and tracker will likely stop working on it soon after. I'm getting forced to go Win10 😞 So I'm making the best of it and building a kickass work machine w00t.

You could install Windows 10 on your old computer. Note that this would have to be a fresh Windows installation, not an upgrade. (Make sure you back up everything first!)

About 3 years ago I installed Windows 10 on my own own Vista PC. It's now about 10 years old and I still use it for some things, though I have a newer PC that I use for most purposes.

You would have to buy a Windows 10 licence. But I got a very cheap one from eBay, and haven't had any problems with it.

Still, if I had only one PC and I depended on it for my work, I don't think I would take the risk of if installing a new Windows on it, in case anything goes wrong. At least make sure you have a workable recovery option available so that you can restore your Vista system if necessary.

Did you buy it from an official eBay seller? Cuz that license might be stolen. Selling licenses on eBay is a blackmarket thing and can get your account killed.

But I'm just using it as an excuse to buy new computer parts. 😄 Building PCs is fun. I already have a copy of Win10 Professional and have it installed on my gaming PC. I bought it ages ago because I knew this day would happen. So long Start Menu button.

Exactly. lol God Win8 was so awful. My bf installed it on a computer that is packed somewhere in my house. I shoulda known a loser like that would have Win8. I didn't listen to the red flag warning.
