Unable to Delete/Unpublish a Specialized Profile I Accidentally Created!

Hello!

I am quite confused about the specialized profiles. I have looked at the instructions on how to unpublish/delete/edit them, however none of those options appear anywhere in my profile settings. I currently have two specialized profiles, and I really want to delete one of them, or at least change its main category and start over from scratch. I am unable to do any of these things. All I can do is edit the individual sections of the profile. I originally created this one when I was exploring around my profile and editing various things (I'm new to Upwork)... it's way too unforgiving to not have a way to change it. Someone help me! Thanks so much! 🙂

Hi Joanne,

Thank you so much for the quick reply. I figured out what was going on. Not only could I not edit/delete the specialized profiles, but I couldn't even fully access my Profile Settings. Once I enabled and created a security question (I hadn't done that yet; my profile was brand-new) I had full access to controls and was able to see all of the options that were described in other help documents.

This might be what's confusing some other folks out there I've seen writing about the same issue. It may be worth mentioning somewhere in the help documentation?

Thanks for your assistance!

Hi Liz,

I checked your account, and it looks like you only have one specialized profile. The option to delete the specialized profile is not available in this case, and this is by design. We are now encouraging users to have a specialized profile so we want to ensure everybody owns at least one.

Please address this issue! I wasted my entire morning trying to delete a specialized profile - or, as the original poster commented, change the specialized category. I had no idea what was going on.  You need a pop-up notifying users that they need to add the security setting before they can do these other profile adjustments. I thought your website was broken because it simply would not click on the link "Profile Settings" and kept going back to Security. Incredibly frustrating.  Thank you.

Why?

Why even have General Profiles then? Now I have to maintain TWO stupid profiles when just ONE will do.

If you are forcing people to have multiple specialized profiles, then just leave it at that and they can use which ever fits the job at hand. The fact multiple people have searched for, and commented on this indicates there is a portion of your user base that is not being heard over this.

I will gladly offer to sit in on the next design meeting if needed and discuss this with the dev team!

You don't have to have a specialised profile, it's just an option.

If you want to add to your portfolio, you have to have a specialised (second) profile. Why, I don't know, but there's no way around it.

Hi Martina,

While this used to be the case, we've recently made an update and now linking a new portfolio item to a specialized profile is optional. Check out Valeria's post here for more info.

Hi,

I just wanted to change my specialty of specialized profile which was campaign management, I wanted that to change to Digital Marketing & boom my specialized profile (  campaign management)  is gone with all the data in it  ( I thought it will just change the category & the data will remains the same but all that happened is opposite . I Want that previous profile back . please help .

Hi Farrukh,

Thank you for your message.

Users always get a pop-up message to confirm the action before their specialized profiles are deleted. You will be unable to restore your deleted profile thereafter. You can create a new specialized profile again.

Thank you.

Hi Joanne,

I think it is a good idea to have the unpublish option for the second specialized profile.

Say for example, I have two specialized profiles, it would be nice to make one primary and the other becomes a secondary profile automatically.

I should be able to unpublish the secondary profile, so it is not visible to the public eye. However, the primary profile will not have the unpublish option.

Let me know what you think.

Please, I just want to know how to unpublish or delete my specialized profile; any suggestions?

Hi Joseph,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I took a closer look at your account and can confirm that you only have one specialized profile. Please be reminded that If you only have one specialized profile, you will not see the option to delete or unpublish it. But you can always edit the information for accuracy and to reflect your current experience and skills! Please check this help article for more details.

I'm obviously having the same issue here. I want to delete my specialized profile but can't find my way around it.
