VAT EU

Hi, I wrote my croatian VAT as HR-11 digit numbers and is not approved, seems to be valid only through Croatia but is not recognized from EU...  VAT is required to be written if I'm from Croatia or I can leave it blank? Can I start working with projects if I haven't put my VAT yet but I plan to do it soon?

Thanks, greetings.

Hi Mauro,

Yes you can start working on jobs without providing your VAT number, but please keep in mind that:

Upwork charges the country-specific Value Added Tax (VAT) to freelancers and agencies in the European Union (EU), unless you provide a valid VAT number. VAT will be assessed on services provided by us, not on services you provide your clients. To learn more about VAT check out this Help Article
You can verify the validity of a VAT number by entering it in the VIES database. Let me know if it verifies in the database but not on Upwork. Thank you.

Thank you very much, I verified on the VIES database and the VAT is not valid for transactions through EU, I received this message from them... So I need the VAT just to work on projects and withdraw earnings in the bank. I read somewhere I need to send a query here near me in my country to register my VAT in Europe, for transactions outside. What do you suggest me to do?

Thanks.

Hi Mauro,

I can suggest to advise yourself with a specialist in your country on how to resolve this issue. Thank you.
