VAT Number

Hi, I'm from Brazil but living temporarily in the Netherlands. The website is asking me for a VAT number, which I don't have. What documents do I need to provide to show that I'm from Brazil and what do I need to do to get my payments?

Hi Eduardo,

You don't need to have a VAT number in order to work on Upwork. Upwork charges the country-specific Value Added Tax (VAT) to freelancers and agencies in the European Union (EU), unless you provide a valid VAT number. VAT will be assessed on services provided by us, not on services you provide your clients. To learn more about VAT check out this Help Article. Press the pencil icon so that you can edit that section where it asks VAT. The fill up your name + address. Nothing more. No VAT number needed. Then go to settings - Get Paid and choose the payment method; bank transfer or PayPal for incoming payments. For PayPal your debit card address from the bank and PayPal address need to match. They will control that after you have earned a certain amount.
