Hi, I have recently obtaines the VAT number from my tax authorities in France. The number doesn't seem to match the requirements and is not validated. I am an enterpreneur in France and so there is no really the "company name". Could it be the problem? How can I solve the problem? Am I going to be charged the VAT anyway, even after validation or not? Thanks in advance;
Anna

Anna,
I don't know if this will help, but your siret number and your siren number are the same (almost). For your siren number (VAT) you only need the first nine digits from the 13 digits of your siret (autoentrepreneur) number.

Hi Nicola,
Thank you for your answer. I have the complete number. It includes FR and two more digits were provided (66) to be 11 digits in total. It doesn't work ((

You'll have to take it up with your local VAT office. It might be simpler to just leave it and let Upwork charge you VAT service rates. You can deduct that - but you have to show it - from your overall earnings from Upwork when you send in your quarterly statements to URSSAF.

Hi Anna,
The VAT number can only be accepted on Upwork if it can also be validated on the VIES website. Please ensure that you are entering the same number in the exact same format.

Hi Anna,
Did you find a solution ? I have the exact same problem !
My VAT n° contains 13 characters in total.
But according to VIES it's suppose to be :
FR-France | FRXX 999999999 | 1 bloc de 2 caractères et 1 bloc de 9 chiffres |
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/faq.html#item_11
So it's suppose to have 11 characters in total.
So anyone can help ? Thx a lot !

Hi Rachel,
You can verify the validity of a VAT number by entering it in the VIES database. If your VAT is validated in the VIES database you will be able to list on Upwork.
Maybe one of our community users will see your issue and answer if they had similar experience, if not I can recommend to consult with local specialist about this. Thank you.

To get an intracommunautaire VAT number you should visit your local tax office (simpler) or you can do it online starting here:
https://www.service-public.fr/professionnels-entreprises/vosdroits/F23570
Click on "Sujette non-redevable "and then on "Service des Impôts des Entreprises (SIE)".
It really is not that complicated - it just requires a little effort.
