Verification for Non US Resident with Upwork account opened for US based LLC

I'm looking on how can I get my account verified as a non-US resident (no US documents) for my Upwork account opened for my LLC business?

I have submitted verification documents but they aren't accepted because they aren't US issued documents. I am happy to submit any company registration documents for the LLC but I don't see that as being an option?

I'd appreciate some input from anyone familiar with this.

Hi Alexandra,

In addition to the details Petra shared, I would like to confirm that presenting misleading information on your profile is a serious violation of our TOS.

Your location on your profile needs to reflect your current location. If you relocate in the future for a longer period of time you will need to update your address as well.

Regarding withdrawing and reporting your earnings, I would recommend consulting with a local specialist. Thank you.

You can not get "US verified" when you are not in the US, which you are not.

Your profile has to accuurately (truthfully!) reflect your own location, not that of your LLC. Your profile can't reflect your LLC, but you as a person. You are in Romania? You must change your profile location to that.

Thank you, I can understand that but then how do I get paid for the work I do as a freelancer registered as an LLC? Because I will need to get paid into the LLC, not into my personal accounts.

That is not a problem. Set up your profile correctly (with your real location) first, so you don't get removed from the platform for location lying. Then, when you set up your bank account, you can choose "to US bank account" and set up the details of your LLC. You will likely have to prove that it is your account but that shouldn't be a problem. But putting a false location on your profile is a pretty big issue here.

I am not sure how Upwork works in that regard but when you say "location lying" or "false location" it is impplied that I maliciously tried to cheat someone or something. I have opened the account in my LLC name, with the LLC address and location where I have a real office, with the purpose of providing freelance work through the LLC, not in personal name. And I have done that because I read here on this community that working as a freelancer through an LLC is the right/better way to freelance.

I do understand that my case isn't the usual case, since most of LLC owners here on Upwork are US citizens so that is why I am asking about the best way to get in good standing.

If the location should be Romania because I'm a Romanian citizen, even if I travel and have a US business operating in a physical location in US then that's what I'll do. But to be accused of "location lying" or "false location" sounds very worrying to me.

I'm not sure that's true. There's all kinds of threads here from people that got into trouble because their name did not match the name on the bank account. Unless you have an agency, you are a freelancer = a natural person, and you have to use your real name on your profile application, all documentation that will be required of you for verification purposes, and lastly, the bank account, otherwise you will not be able to withdraw earnings.
