What do the colors on the radio buttons in messages mean?

What do the colors on the radio buttons in messages mean? I assume green means they are in the room, gray means they are out of the room, but what does yellow mean?

Yellow means idle/away.

Thanks..so if it is grayed out does that mean they are gone for good?

If it is grayed out then the user may just be offline.
