What name do my clients see in the message chatroom?

Hi, Upwork!

I would just like to ask what name our clients see in our message chatroom. From my perspective, it shows my full name and this makes me uncomfortable. I'm conscious about having my full name displayed since it's pretty unique and I want to protect it for privacy reasons. I'm really hoping it's just my first name and the initial of my last name, but I'm not sure.

Hi Ciara,

When a freelancer agrees to enter into a contract with a client, we share the freelancer's verified name with the client. Your full, verified name will appear on your invoices for the client and in the “Contract Room” you share with the client.

Hi, Bojan! Thank you for the quick and helpful reply. One more question, if it's alright: If it's not yet a contract but just an interview for an active candidacy, do they still see the full name?

I completely get why there's a need to show the full name, though, specially for actual invoices and active contracts.

Hi Ciara,

Your first name and last initial will show on your profile, while in messages, the client will see full First and Last name.
