Why is my client asking for refund when I didn't work?

Hello, I am from Bangladesh and serving as a Lead Generation Specialist. I am working in this sector since 2016 but I am very new to Upwork.

A few weeks ago, I won an hourly job and the client requested to do 2 hours of trial work (If all goes well, you can work 5-10 hours per week: client's message). I did above his expectation and thanks me for my amazing work. I worked only 2 hours in that week and Upwork added the money(for 2 hours) to my account. Next week I asked him for continuing the work if he wants but didn't reply and I asked him 3 times (Client was online, that's why) the same question and he didn't reply again & again. So I thought he might be very busy. Anyway, 2nd week: 0 hours work but Upwork gave me the same money as the first weeks(2 hours), 3rd week: same. At the beginning of 4rth week, he came back & asked me "why you worked more when we were agreed to work for just 2 hours" and he forced me to give a refund and I did quickly because I don't want to mess up anything(nobody does at least who is here to build a career).

But still, now I can see the same amount is awaiting in my pending earning section. So I need a deep explanation about this issue. Can anyone please point me where is my fault and what should I do now?

Best,

Abdur Rahman

Lead Generation Specialist

Note: In the first week, I saw I was hired as a Weekly Retainer in "My jobs" section

That's why. The client made a mistake when setting up the contract. They meant to set up an hourly contract. with a 2 hour limit, and set up a weekly retainer instead.

You would need to refund the accidentally paid money ($ 16), and the client has to close the contract. The client will also be charged again next week for this week's retainer.
