Hi Melissa,

I'd like to confirm that connects are not refunded when you withdraw a proposal. We return Connects when a client closes their job without hiring or we find a job post has violated our Terms of Service

Got it.  Thanks Joanne!

Is this not kind of a predatory behavior? If the client is unresponsive my connects are withholded undefinitively, or if I engage in another contract and can't no longer fulfill the initial proposed why do I lose the connects? Its making you think upwork business is ripping connects from freelancers, not getting the commisions for the gigs done....

Hi Merak,

If a client doesnโ€™t hire and closes their job post, any Connects used to submit a proposal will be returned to you. However, if they do not close the job, no Connects will be returned. We understand this isnโ€™t ideal, and we regularly reach out to clients who have open job posts to encourage them to close them if they donโ€™t intend to hire. Because we know the move to paid Connects has made this issue more important, we have already ramped up our outreach to clients who post jobs and donโ€™t hire, and are looking into other ways to better ensure these jobs get closed so your Connects are returned in these cases.

Wht if he doesn't close the job, our connects are stuck there for life? Why?

You're paying for the chance to apply. There is no guarantee of success. I don't see how it's "predatory" since Upwork is transparent about the costs and it's entirely your own choice if you want to bid or not.

Hi,

If freelancer withdraws his proposal then it should be refunded and added back in the total count.

Very disappointing act by Upwork, why are you being so greedy and forcing freelancers to buy more connects so you get paid more?

Upwork should rethink on their policies like in this case and on giving unpaid members just 10 connects and forcing them to buy more if they want to bid on projects. These days a minimum connects a job post requires are 8, and unpaid members can't bid on more than 1 project 1 month. Too bad!!

what happen if client post a job for a month or a year without hiring? will we get back our connects? I mean when I withdrawal my proposal.

Hi Nguyen,

We return Connects when a client closes their job without hiring or we find a job post has violated our Terms of Service. However, Connects will not be credited back to your account for withdrawn proposals.

You can find more information here.

Hi,

This is so embarrising, if client doesn't hire anyone nor does he closes the job post and thus we withdraw our proposal from there then it should be refunded. What is the fault of freelancer here? Why he has to suffer when client is unresponsive? Those connects are either bought by the freelancer or are given him for free by Upwork for being a member of the website, so it should be his decision whether he wants those connects cosidered as consumed or not.

I agree with you Nauman. What is the fun in giving the option to withdraw the proposal if he is not getting anything back.

Well that's a drag and totally unfair. If I send out a proposal and the client either doesn't look at my proposal or doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time, I should get my Connects back. I can't imagine anyone with a reasonable mind would say otherwise.

Hi Joanne, How do I contact you about a client whose job post violates terms of service? They posted a project rate but were looking to pay nothing, literally zero dollars, and told me so in their response.

Daniel, this is how you flag a job post:

Click on the job's title.

You'll have a proposition "Flag as inappropriate" in the top right corner.

Click on "Client is asking for free work"

Click on "Submit" at the bottom.

The number of jobs posted, in which the client not only doesn't hire anyone, but doesn't even interview anyone is enormous. Why doesn't upwork return those connects?

Why do you allow spam jobs?
I have seen relatively attractive job postings, and an hour later the posting is copied, posted with a new โ€œclientโ€ who just created an account the same day.

Now the freelancer even has to pay to reply to an invitation! Unbelievable.

When will you do something USEFUL for the freelancer? Because what I see is pure greed.

Hello dear freelancers! I agree with everyone here. UpWork is not even worth the time unless you are high paid freelancer. Otherwise the earnings of the small jobs you do will just go to buying more connects and pay taxes.๐Ÿ‘Ž

Hi Hassan,

I checked your account and it appears that your proposals were withdrawn due to account hold. I regret to inform you that we are unable to reverse the withdrawn proposals.
