free sample

What are the rules when requesting an edited sample of your work.  Reviewing samples of previous works tells/shows me nothing about what a freelancer can do for my works.  Is here a way request an edit sample of ones works (example; a chapter at least) without a cost.? though it seems unfair to the freelancer it is also unfair ask for a payment of bad edits.

Alice, that's why fixed price jobs have milestones. The freelancer receives no money until you approve the milestone when you are satisfied with the work you receive. If you're not satisfied, you ask the freelancer to make revisions.

Seasoned and professional freelancers would run if you ask them for free tests. There are som many scammers who pull the free test card to get free work from freelancers that it almost became a red flag on his own.

Serious businesspeople don't worry about this type of "unfairness."

That is an emotional response. Businesspeople serious about making money or developing a successful project take a more mercenary approach.

A big key to success is hiring freelancers who do horrible work and paying for work that you can not use, which needs to be done over again. When you see their terrible work, quickly stop working with them.

This is part of finding the valuable freelancers who you will actually continue working with and who will help you succeed.
