This is an awesome topic! I've been on Upwork for almost 9 years and I find the key to being successful is communication. Set realistic expectations for your client - if you are only available during certain hours, let them know. If you have certain days you need off, communicate that with them. Most clients are understanding as long as you let them know and the more advance notice you give, the better. Also, when you apply for a job, I recommend that you spend the time to make it personal - as someone who has recuited hundreds of freelancers for various clients over the years, I can tell immediately who copies and pastes and who actually takes the time to fill out an application. I hope these tips help!
