Starting September 23, half of all clients can request customized work on projects and services in Project Catalog. This new test feature allows clients to specifically ask for work that matches their needs while browsing freelancers’ projects. Requesting customized work also gives freelancers an additional opportunity to work with clients who might otherwise feel discouraged when freelancers’ projects don’t fit their exact needs.

When clients are on a project details page, they’ll notice the option to select Custom request and submit a personalized request to a freelancer if the Catalog project tiers don't match their specific needs. Below the What's included section, clients will also see a message directing them to send a personalized request to freelancers.

After selecting Custom request, clients are given an explanation about what a custom request is: “If you’re not seeing exactly what you need here, send [freelancer’s name] a custom request. You can talk about price and timeline to create a personalized project.” Clients will notice the option to Send a request at the bottom of the section.

When clients select Send a request, they’re provided with a message text box to explain their needs and project goals to the freelancer.

“While fixed price projects are quick and easy for many clients, some will find a freelancer that has the skills needed to complete their job, but the freelancer’s project does not fit their exact need. The custom requests feature provides these clients with an opportunity to request customized work from talent directly on the project details page, so they can find and hire the right talent as quickly as possible,” shares Product Manager Grace G.
