Hello Bethany and community... I just find my way around... I've created a few proposals and applied for a few gigs... taken some of the courses... In general, I was impressed and excited but landing even a small job would be nice reinforcement. Are there any stats or general rules of thumb for newbies? Also, I have created a large library of content that can be easily adapted to fit these jobs. What is the average blog post or word count? reading level grade etc? I'm doing 500 +- word range at 5th-9th grade level. I'm also listing that in the proposal...I want to differentiate myself but not overdo it! hope to hear from someone...Rock 2023!   Coach Moon

Hello All,

I am new to Upwork --actually stumbled on it by accident. My purpose here is to supplement my small business income and perhaps expand my work specialities. For example, I have an interest and some talent, I believe, in technical writing while my primary source of income is income tax preparation and managing real estate projects. Having just signed up today I have already benefited from seeing others hourly rates and profiles as well as bidding on a technical writing gig.

I am sure my profile needs work and I accept suggestions as I will offer some as well once I have acquired knowledge on how and when to do so.

My name is Tara Dreyer and I am a huge fan of Upwork. I have worked in communication and marketing for over 10 years, and have served as a communication specialist for three college campuses and two athletic departments. After completing my master’s degree at The University of Texas at Austin, Upwork has been my main source of work as I am looking for a new full-time job. I have mainly picked up jobs writing blogs, webpages and press releases, and have really enjoyed working with and getting to know people across the nation and world.

I am so happy to see that this community was created and hope to network with other freelancers. I would particularly love to hear stories on any freelancers who left a corporate-type job and have been able to do this full-time. As far as business processes I have figured out- I believe that my profile has stood out because I made sure to really take my time with my profile and market myself. In addition, I always write cover letters that are specific to each job and let potential employers know about my experience and how it applies to the job they posted. I have experience in updating resumes and cover letters as well, so I believe that helps!
