GST/ HST / QST Numbers

Hello,

I'm a temporary resident of Canada and I want to start getting paid in my Canadian account.

I already registered my SIN but it asks me for my GST, HST, and QST number too, since I'm residing in Quebec.  I tried to register my GST and HST in  Canada Revenue Agency and QST in Revenue Quebec but I am not required to since I do not make the amount specified in the requirements.

''Specifically, you must register for the GST and the QST if your total worldwide taxable supplies (including sales, rentals, exchanges, transfers, barter, etc.) and those made by your associates exceed $30,000 in a given calendar quarter or in the four preceding calendar quarters.''

You do not exceed the $30,000 threshold over four consecutive calendar quarters.

You are a small supplier.

You do not have to register.

Hi,

Thanks for this topic.

I'm also a temporary resident of Canada, and I'm trying to apply for GST and PST( for BC), but I have a similar problem.
Now, I have done one project, but I cannot receive the money due to this problem.

I talked to a lot of tax specialists here in Vancouver, and they say you cannot open PST because you do not deliver physical outcomes, and you cannot open GST, because you earn less than 30,000.
Please help.

Hey Arjay, could you please assist me with the same issue?
I'm a temporary resident in Canada and not eligible for paying HST.

Many thanks

Hi there,

I'm also a temporary resident of Canada, and I'm trying to apply for HST (For Ontario), but I have a similar problem.

From the beginning of 2024, I've started getting paid in my Canadian account.

Based on the info below I am exempt from paying HST and since I'm a temporary resident How I can get a BR to then get an HST number?
Please Help by assisting with this issue.

You don’t have to collect the tax if your company:

• Is considered a small supplier

The CRA deems any business with $30,000 or less in revenue to be a small supplier. If you don’t qualify as exempt under the zero-rating or you sell items or services that are otherwise exempt, you don’t need to register for or collect GST/HST.
