Identity Verification is under Manual Review

Hi. I am stuck in some kind of loop. I have received several requests to verify my identity yesterday and today. I keep using my phone to take a picture of the front and back of my drivers license and then do a quick selfie. It always says "thanks for your submission" and then it says it's undergoing a manual review. A few hours later I get another request to do it all over again. 


I think I've subitted it 5 or 6 times. Should I be doing something different? Am I doing something wrong? Can you help?

Hello Adrian,

 

I am sorry to hear about the issue you encountered when trying to complete the ID verification process. In some cases, if you try to submit a document from the list and we can't automatically verify your submission, it will undergo a manual review process. If this happens, please allow 1-3 days for the team to finish their review. 

 

If you do not have any documents from the list, you can submit a different government-issued ID, ensuring it's unexpired and valid. You may need to try multiple times and this will also trigger a manual review process. Please avoid cropping, altering, or uploading a screenshot of your ID card. Acceptable documents include a passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria.

Hi! I have the same issue going around for weeks now. I've tried sending an ID again but it just showed the same page where it's asking me to go through Identification verification.

Hello Steffany,

 

I am sorry to learn that you are encountering an issue when trying to submit your ID again. If you are seeing the same page as the one on your desktop, it's because of the settings of the mobile browser. I recommend that you set it to mobile view. If the issue persists even after doing so, kindly contact our customer support team

through this page with a video clip replicating the issue.

I think that is because of conflict in auto processing.

The upwork support team will verify by hand.

Hi everyone,

I've been experiencing an issue with the background color of images I upload to Upwork. The system seems to apply a background color that differs significantly from what I see on my end. I've checked the color profiles and quality of my images, but the discrepancy persists.

Does anyone else encounter this problem, and if so, have you found a solution or workaround? I'd appreciate any insights or tips on how to ensure color accuracy when uploading images to Upwork.

I have submitted identity documents multiple times, including my passport and national identity card, but I still have not received the identity badge. Can the support team help escalate the process so I can get my identity verified? A screenshot is attached. Assistance is highly appreciated

Thank you for reaching out to us. I will be happy to help. I checked, and it seems that your documents were not accepted, and you need to submit them again. Before re-submitting, it’s best to take note of the following:
 
  • The ID should be a valid government-issued photo ID (not a digital, expired, or temporary)
  • Do not crop or alter your image
  • Ensure all four corners of your ID are visible
  • The image should be clear and in color
  • The ID name must match the information on your Upwork account

 

You can update your document here. Could you please try uploading your document following the tips shared above and in this help article?

Hi am Praise from Nigeria. Over three days I have been trying to verify my identity. It keeps rejecting it. I am using the new ID for Nigerians, the old slip isn't available anymore. Please I need help. My account seem to have been suspended.

I got hired two days ago,and got a request to verify my account which I've done to the best of my knowledge.
It shows under manual review, and my client says I need to verify before we continue with the project, which is a huge bummer. 
 
Please could you expedite?

I checked your account. It seems that your last document submission was rejected. You will need to reupload your documents again from the Settings page. To complete your verification more efficiently, you can refer to the tips section on this help page.

i had already had verifified my identity when i made my profile. When i went to apply to my first job i had to verify again using my phone number for a code, but it say i exceeded my tries to send the code which is not accurate at all. So now im just stuck in a forever loop, and this has been going on for several days now.

I have the same problem, than i posted just like you did. Than someone told me a seperate ticket is created for you. I waited and eventually went to sleep next day i found someone named Cynthia saying provide your number which i did and till now no repsonse. Upwork should really hire some people to respond faster!

Hi Luiggi,  I got a verification pop up, and I have, to the best of my ability, done the necessary verification, but that red warning is still on my profile, which is frustrating, as I currently have an active contract,and need my account in good standing. Could you please rectify?
