Identity Verification

Hi Team, 

 

Today I got my Identity Verification tab in my settings, I have a few questions: -

Q.1) I don't have any last legal name so how are you guys gonna verify my Identity?

Q.2) In my UpWork profile, my current name is "Tushar Sharma", but legally I don't have a last name so what should I do next to get my UpWork Account Verified?

Q.3) My last name in my UpWork profile i.e. "Sharma" is used by me because it was required by UpWork account registration

 

Let me know your thoughts on it.

Hi Tushar,

 

If you are eligible or required to receive an “Identity Verified” badge, you can complete the two stages by going to Identity Verification in your Settings.

 

Freelancers requested to submit identification documents should submit any of the documents listed during the verification process. Note that the list is different for each country.

 

If you do not have any documents from the list, you can submit a different government-issued ID, ensuring it’s unexpired and valid. This will trigger a manual review process. Acceptable documents include passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria. 

 

Please note that your profile must represent you as an individual and that all the information in your profile, including your profile photo, needs to be accurate, truthful, and verifiable. We understand you may have provided a name and/or picture that you would like to update now. If that’s the case, and you’re being asked to verify your identity now, please proceed with submitting your ID and completing your Visual Verification anyways. If there is any issue or mismatch, our team will reach out to you directly to assist you.

 

Note that we occasionally ask users to re-verify because periodic checks ensure their accounts continue to reflect accurate information. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible and we thank you for your contribution to keeping Upwork a professional and safe community.

 

If you don't see a way to verify, that may be because you're not eligible yet. Please know that verification cannot be requested, but is slowly being rolled out to all talent. If the team finds the need to verify your account, you will be notified through an email, or through a notification in your account.

Hello. The last step of identity verificaation is still pending and showing this message - We are reviewing your selfie which typically takes a few minutes, but could take up to 1 business day.

 

I wanted to know how long it would take because I would like to apply for jobs on the platform.

I took a closer look at your profile and confirmed that your ID has been verified. You should now be seeing the ID Verified badge on your account to validate the action taken on your account. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Can some one explain why I have been asked to verify my identity? I have not earned anything, which I understand is a prerequisite to get tagged with the identiy verification. I have had almost too much trouble using this platform, my account availability is constantly being switched off. And now, I'm finding the identity verification request to be pretty invasive. One wonders if it's worth it.

I ran into this issue as I was applying for a job. I needed a verification to be sent to my phone number but after I typed it in and pressed ok, I got a notification that said this phone number is already in use by another user. This is my first and only account. What can we do to get this fixed?

Hello

 

I have submitted my ID for verification 4 days ago and it is still showing "We're reviewing yout documents and will get back within 1-3 business days". How long does this actually take?

 

I would appreciate your urgent support with this process as I need to get hired asap.

I have a question,

If I submit my NID card for identity verification, do I have to submit "front and back side" pictures? or only the front side?

Hi Shahinoor,

 

You will need to take a picture of your government-issued ID in order to verify your identity. The acceptable forms of ID vary by country and will be listed on the form.

  • This ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address, with the exception of passports, which don't need your address.
  • The documents we accept include passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria.

Note that we cannot accept:

  • Student IDs, employee IDs, library cards, handwritten IDs, temporary IDs, photocopied IDs, military IDs, and health cards.

Don't crop, rotate, touch up, adjust colors, or alter the images in any way. You can find more information here

I can't seem to verify my account - it won't recognise my license an Isle of man one. isle of man is not on your list.  how can I proceed - its stopping me from pitching.

I am trying to verify my account but its showing me wrong name while verification, that name I mistakenly placed on my bank detail, although I changed it in bank detail but the issue still here. Please resolve it at your earliest.

Hello!

I am an Italian freelancer who signed up on Upwork a few weeks ago. I am having difficulty locating the "verification ID" option in the settings. Additionally, when I attempt to follow links provided in other forum questions, I encounter a 404 error. Currently, my ID verification status is listed as Military Veteran, and I am unable to change it.

That's because you aren't required to complete any verification yet. The team will let you know if there is a need for any verification in the future. Please know that verification cannot be requested. If the team finds the need to verify your account, you will be notified through an email, or through a notification in your account with more information on how you can complete the verification process.

Hello ,
My Upwork account has just been blocked just as I'm about to receive my first payment. I was asked a week ago to verify my identity, which I did using a copy of my driver's license. I also changed my profile picture as requested. In response, the following message was displayed for 3 days. We're unable to process your ID at this time. You may be able to add your ID again later. I thought that an ID card would be more appropriate than a driver's license, so I uploaded a photo of my card again to start the ID verification process. Obviously it didn't work. I waited another 3 days and now my account is blocked. Could  you please check the data I've sent you and tell me what I can do about it? Thanks

Hello there,

 

I got an email from Upwork two days ago saying that my account has been restricted until I could verify my ID and I sent information about a Direct Contract I have with a client. The email also said I could get my account suspended in 5 days (see attached).

 

The thing is I never did anything wrong, I honestly don't know what's the matter, but I am really desperate. I cannot withdraw any money from Upwork, and if my account gets suspended I'll probably loose my job. I already verified my ID and sent the documents that were requested, but I haven't had any new about this issue.

Please help me, I am really worried. I would never do anything against the rules, I appreciate Upwork very much and working here is my main source of income.

Why is government approved citizenship not included as option for identity verification in Nepal ? Why only passport option?

I'm sorry if you're having difficulties verifying your ID. Please be aware that the acceptable forms of ID vary by country and will be listed on the form. If the system is rejecting your ID, it means the submission was denied. Kindly consider submitting other alternate Valid Government-issued ID.

 

  • This ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address, with the exception of passports, which don't need your address.

You may check this help article  for more information about acceptable documents and best practices when submitting your ID for approval.

 

Once you are ready to resubmit, access your Upwork account Settings and click the Identity Verification tab to continue. Let us know if you need further assistance.
