Identity Verification

Hi Team, 

 

Today I got my Identity Verification tab in my settings, I have a few questions: -

Q.1) I don't have any last legal name so how are you guys gonna verify my Identity?

Q.2) In my UpWork profile, my current name is "Tushar Sharma", but legally I don't have a last name so what should I do next to get my UpWork Account Verified?

Q.3) My last name in my UpWork profile i.e. "Sharma" is used by me because it was required by UpWork account registration

 

Let me know your thoughts on it.

Hi Tushar,

 

If you are eligible or required to receive an “Identity Verified” badge, you can complete the two stages by going to Identity Verification in your Settings.

 

Freelancers requested to submit identification documents should submit any of the documents listed during the verification process. Note that the list is different for each country.

 

If you do not have any documents from the list, you can submit a different government-issued ID, ensuring it’s unexpired and valid. This will trigger a manual review process. Acceptable documents include passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria. 

 

Please note that your profile must represent you as an individual and that all the information in your profile, including your profile photo, needs to be accurate, truthful, and verifiable. We understand you may have provided a name and/or picture that you would like to update now. If that’s the case, and you’re being asked to verify your identity now, please proceed with submitting your ID and completing your Visual Verification anyways. If there is any issue or mismatch, our team will reach out to you directly to assist you.

 

Note that we occasionally ask users to re-verify because periodic checks ensure their accounts continue to reflect accurate information. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible and we thank you for your contribution to keeping Upwork a professional and safe community.

 

If you don't see a way to verify, that may be because you're not eligible yet. Please know that verification cannot be requested, but is slowly being rolled out to all talent. If the team finds the need to verify your account, you will be notified through an email, or through a notification in your account.

Could you please try uploading documents again? You can select the document type that is closest to the document you can provide and submit it. 

Additionally, feel free to check out this help article for the list of acceptable documents for verification.

I was trying to apply to a job today when Upwork asked to verify my identity. After several tries with the mobile phone, which kept saying that "no face was detected", I finally could finish somehow the process via laptop computer.

However, I could not upload both sides of my ID, and would like to add the missing side. I tried the bot, but it sent me to a non-existing menu option. Then it sent me to place a "ticket", but the page only included "my requests" and I had none, I was trying to place one. 

It seems impossible to connect to a person to explain all this, so maybe this forum can help me

1) how to upload additional documentation for the identity verification process?

2) how can I start a "request" or "ticket"?

3) is there an email to address all our questions? if not, WHY?

Hello Arjay, my name is Thiago, and I'm also having issues with the verification of my identity. I went through the process of taking a selfie with my face, and so far, Upwork hasn't marked it as completed. Additionally, I've submitted all my details and sent my ID Card (I'm from Brazil, and here the ID Card has two sides; I've been submitting it, but it keeps getting rejected).

I'm sorry if you're having difficulties verifying your ID. Please know that If the system is rejecting your ID, it means the submission was denied. Kindly consider submitting other alternate Valid Government-issued ID. You may check the email from the review team or this this help article for more information about acceptable documents and best practices when submitting your ID for approval.

 
Once you are ready to resubmit, access your Upwork account Settings and click the Identity Verification tab to continue. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Hi,

I have submitted my government ID 4 months ago to get verified and it's still pending and showing "We're reviewing your ID, which can take up to 1-3 business days". It's been months and I'm even unable to generate a support ticket and chat bot is also not very supportive.
It'll be great if anybody can help.

I'm having the same problem, I'm sending my Brazilian ID, which doesn't have any problems and they don't accept it, they claim it's missing information, they ask for the back and it's still not possible to send it.

I have been trying to verify my identity for more than 5 days, in numerous ways, with my name with accents and without, Upwork does not accept my identity as I DON'T HAVE ANY TYPE OF PROBLEM WITH IT, this is already causing me anxiety, it depends to continue my work and I will end up losing my job because your system is bad.

Hi, so am getting this error on my profile "Action required: Verify your identity to continue winning jobs on Upwork. Verify your identity". I read the instructions and it said I can use a Driving licence to verify my identification, when I try to upload the ID, there are only 2 options namely "Passport" and "Passport Diplomatic". Seeing as my Passport expired this year I just I selected "Passport" anyway to upload a Driving licence but it was rejected. I have tried to create a ticket, but it has proved impossible. Please help me on how I can pass this stage.

My video verification has been approved, and I have already subscribed to the Plus membership. However, I am still unable to submit a proposal because my ID verification has not been completed.

I am a China Freelancer. I submit the ID card of the Chinese government without an English name or Chinese pinyin.
At the same time, I gave myself the English name dylan, which is not reflected in my Chinese ID card.

This proposal is highly suitable for me, and time is running out. Is there any way to expedite the ID verification process? I initially submitted my Chinese ID card. Would it be better if I switch to submitting my passport instead? 

Should I change the name on my profile to the Chinese phonetic alphabet that matches my passport?

The identity verification page is showing "We are reviewing your selfie which typically takes a few minutes, but could take up to 1 business day.". I seriously need help. Please suggest me

I see that your previous submission was auto rejected possibly due to a low-resolution image or unclear text. Please upload a clear image of your ID documents again from the Settings page.

I have been trying to upload my DL or Passport before I get cut off from getting work.  I have done this 10-15 times already and every time it fails, when it does accept it, later says could not process.  Is anyone else having this issue?

l asked you how do l complete the identity verification process because l am not seeing the identity verification settings on my profile. l understand you say you will send a notification to verify but its been long since l opened my account and have not received the email. Is there something l need to do to get this verification email. You then responded and said my account does not require verification at this time. So then my question is how do l get the blue verified check mark on my profile? Because clients prefer freelancers with verified accounts and without it l don't have a chance of getting hired.

Once our verification team requires that you do, we’ll let you know when it’s time for you to earn the "Identity Verified" badge by sending an email and showing you a notification when you log into your Upwork account. Then, you’ll just need to complete these steps:

 

  1. Log into your Upwork account, go to Settings, then Identity Verification
  2. Provide a valid government-issued ID
  3. Complete a visual verification

I want to verify my account. but for the country issing ID, there is not Macau, China

You can complete the verification process by clicking the 'Verify your Identity' option once you log into your account. The acceptable forms of ID vary by country and will be listed on the form.

  • This ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address, with the exception of passports, which don't need your address.
  • The documents we accept include passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria.
