Identity Verification

Hi Team, 

 

Today I got my Identity Verification tab in my settings, I have a few questions: -

Q.1) I don't have any last legal name so how are you guys gonna verify my Identity?

Q.2) In my UpWork profile, my current name is "Tushar Sharma", but legally I don't have a last name so what should I do next to get my UpWork Account Verified?

Q.3) My last name in my UpWork profile i.e. "Sharma" is used by me because it was required by UpWork account registration

 

Let me know your thoughts on it.

Hi Tushar,

 

If you are eligible or required to receive an “Identity Verified” badge, you can complete the two stages by going to Identity Verification in your Settings.

 

Freelancers requested to submit identification documents should submit any of the documents listed during the verification process. Note that the list is different for each country.

 

If you do not have any documents from the list, you can submit a different government-issued ID, ensuring it’s unexpired and valid. This will trigger a manual review process. Acceptable documents include passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, NBI Clearance (Philippines only), tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria. 

 

Please note that your profile must represent you as an individual and that all the information in your profile, including your profile photo, needs to be accurate, truthful, and verifiable. We understand you may have provided a name and/or picture that you would like to update now. If that’s the case, and you’re being asked to verify your identity now, please proceed with submitting your ID and completing your Visual Verification anyways. If there is any issue or mismatch, our team will reach out to you directly to assist you.

 

Note that we occasionally ask users to re-verify because periodic checks ensure their accounts continue to reflect accurate information. Our goal is to make this process as seamless as possible and we thank you for your contribution to keeping Upwork a professional and safe community.

 

If you don't see a way to verify, that may be because you're not eligible yet. Please know that verification cannot be requested, but is slowly being rolled out to all talent. If the team finds the need to verify your account, you will be notified through an email, or through a notification in your account.

We won't be able to discuss the status of another user's account for privacy and security reasons. However, rest assured that decisions to suspend a user's account are not taken lightly and without fully investigating for TOS violations.
 
Please, refer to this help article for general reasons why our Trust & Safety team may take action on an account.

I have problem with Identity (ID) Verification, when try it:

Full Name is not same as profile setting, I change all as a FAQ or ChatBot support tell me, but not change when start validation.

 

How can I do? I am frustrating....

I have a problem with Identity (ID) Verification when I start "get start" I get a full name that is not mine.

I have changed it everywhere as indicated in the faqsm, support and help, but the name is still wrong.

What is happening?

Hi Upwork Community !

I'm an old freelancer of upwork. I want to verify my account but I am not able to see any Identity Verification option in settings. I have tried to access this option from direct links but it says page not available. Please help me fix this issue so I can also get blue tick and verified account.

You cannot initiate it yourself. Upwork team will contact you for verifitation later.

I'm Mostafa Mahmoud from Egypt. I have verified my account by my ID and now it doesn't work and I have a message that I can't send proposals after 5/11 if I can't verify my account until this time and I don't know where is the problem.

In the option to select the type of Government issued id's. there is no option of national id. I am from Ethiopia and the process to get passport is lengthy. Is there any solution to this?

Hi Duressa,

 

You will need to take a picture of your government-issued ID in order to verify your identity. The acceptable forms of ID vary by country and will be listed on the form.

 

  • This ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address, with the exception of passports, which don't need your address.
  • The documents we accept include a passport, national ID card (NIC/CNIC), driver's license, tax ID, voter ID, postal ID, or any other valid government-issued photo ID that meets these criteria.

I recently moved to Australia through a spouse visa, is there any way to verification with new location using spouse visa?

Hi Haider,

 

Thank you for reaching out. For your ID Verification, the ID must include your picture, signature, name, date of birth, and address, except passports, which don't need your address. That said, it should not be another person's ID, so your spouse's Visa cannot be accepted. Feel free to check this help article to learn more about acceptable documents to complete your ID verification.

It doesn't look like you need to verify your account yet. The team will let you know if there is a need for any verification in the future. Please know that verification cannot be requested. If the team finds the need to verify your account, you will be notified through an email, or through a notification in your account with more information on how you can complete the verification process.

Hi, what the hell is going on with me?

I am reaching out to customer support to help me solve my problem, but they are not responding to my message, and my time for verification is going on.
 
My issue is that:

  1. When I created my account, I added my name as Muhammad Abdullah!
  2. but I added that mistakenly, and after that, I changed my name to Abdullah Abdullah, as it is in my legal document!
  3. Now, when I try to upload my CNIC image, in the user name section, my name appears as Muhammad Abdullah
  4. However, my name on my profile is Abdullah Abdullah! but on the verification process, it appears as Muhammad Abdullah 
  5. on my CNIC, my name is Just Abdullah so I can submit my CNIC for Muhammad Abdullah with a CNIC containing the name Abdullah; hence, I have changed my name to Abdullah to meet Upwork policy
Please solve my issues ( Community Guidelines  ) so I can carry on my journey as a freelancer on your platform. Senior please guide me with your expertise

My id is verified but the badges are not shown on the profile?

Hi Suhaib,

 

I see that the ID Verification Badge is visible on your profile. If you can't see it on your end, try clearing your browser cache and cookies or checking from a different browser.
