Whenever i try to withdraw my money using paypal, payment method fails and money is credited back to my upwork account.
The following is the received mail:
We attempted to process your recent payment request but unfortunately it failed.
The reason for returned funds: Unable to apply funds.
As a result, the funds have been returned to your Upwork account and we need you to update your payment method for future payments.

Hi Mariam,
I am sorry to hear about the trouble withdrawing your funds. I checked the withdrawal you are referring to and it appears that there is a problem with either your PayPal account or the PayPal details added to your Upwork account. Could you please reach out to PayPal support to check the status of your account and try adding the PayPal account again?

Hi,
I am trying to withdraw via Paypal but it keeps getting rejected without any specific reason on the rejection email.
I contacted both Upwork and Paypal support and both stating that my accounts are fine with no limitation. So a ping pong game started and each support is forwarding me to the other party.
Paypal is stating that I can receive transfers just fine from other accounts and wven from Upwork if they use another account to make the transfer. However they arent allowed do provide more details for the failure.
The same reply from Upwork, they are also not allowed to provide details.
How can this issue be resolved without details 🙂
My method was working just fine a couple of weeks before the rejection.
I see a lot of complains in this forum and not sure if any of them got fully resolved.
So I need some help from support forum here.

Sometimes it fails the charge when using PayPal. Try using anyother card like Visa or Mastercard, it would be done smoothly.

Actually I am trying to withdraw from Upwork to Paypal so I cannot use card directly.
Other method is working fine but I wanted to have also Paypal as a withdraw method.

Thanks for your support. However I got the same exact answer as on my initial ticket I had opened.
Upwork instructs to go to Paypal, on the other hand Paypal instructs to contact Upwork.
So I started the forum discussion to see if other members have fixed this.

My Paypal purchase is rejected. Tried countless times. No trouble with other online purchase.
We are sorry but we cannot setup PayPal as your payment method because it is not verified. Please verify your PayPal account or add a payment card.

I am reaching out regarding an issue I am experiencing with my PayPal withdrawal method. When I attempt to withdraw funds to my PayPal account, I receive a message stating that my withdrawal method is disabled and that I should check if my name on Upwork matches the name on my PayPal account.
I have verified that the names on both accounts match perfectly, yet I am still unable to proceed with the withdrawal.

I checked your account and it appears that you will need to contact PayPal to find out the reason why Upwork was unable to credit the amount to your account. You may also add an alternate payment method to withdraw your funds. Please feel free to visit this helpful article to learn more.

Hi all, I'm having an issue regarding a withdrawal to my PayPal. I've had regular withdrawals for years now and there's never been an issue.
My last withdrawal showed up as complete on Upwork, however Paypal never received it. After going back & forth Paypal requested the 17 digit transaction code Upwork used. I can't get a clear answer on the matter. The chatbot is of little help.
For all other transactions I've been notified through Paypal, so it looks like it never went through.
I'd love to contact a rep but I can't seem to get any help!

Hello, I am trying to add paypal as the withdrowal method on Upwork. I did get the message about the beneficiary name mismatch earlier, name on Paypal and Upwork are actually matching but currentlly the status on withrdowal method is still Inactive even after trying to re-connect the paypal account a couple of times.

Hello,
I am trying to add Paypal as payment method but I got this message : Your payment method has been deactivated because the beneficiary name on your payment method does not match the name on your Upwork account. But the name is the same on both!
For example my Upwork name is Eslam Ashraf.
My name in Paypal is the same. Eslam Ashraf.
I tried multiple times to remove the payment method and link it again and check the name on both but the name is exactly the same and still getting the same message.
Can anyone help?

I checked and I am pleased to inform you that your payment method is already accepted. You can use this payment method starting Aug 22, 2024.
