I am having a similar issue. I am setting up a personal freelancer account and I need a phone number to proceed with the final step but my phone number is also being used for a client account which I need. Could someone advise please.

I am very frustrated, every time I try to apply for a job I am unable to because when prompted to receive a code either text or phone call to my number an error message pops up, saying this number is already in use. Please contact Support. However, I have tried multiple times to contact Support and they say That my account is not able to receive support. Please help me with this issue

Hi I am trying to use my phone number to apply for a job but it says that my number is already in use with another account. I know that I started to make an account years ago but did not finish. I've tried using old emails to log in but none of them worked. I would like to know what I have to do in order to close that account.

Hi, I'm trying to setup my account I have two phone numbers but both of them are associated with other accounts.
One phone number is tied to an email address that upwork disabled because my account was dormant.
The other phone number is tied to an email address that I no longer have access to.
Can someone help me? I'm sure we can fix this on a 5 minute phone call? I don't know why you guys make it so hard to get help for account issues.

Thanks for your inquiry, you can make (option 1) to make your account by activating your account to contact support. Login to your email account through browser and when you get login then open the upworks account through using email address to login. This option will definitely work.

I've been trying unsuccessfully for weeks to set up a Freelancer account. Unfortunately, I was blocked from doing so because my cellphone number is already associated with a former Employer account. I was able to access the old account and request that it be closed down, but I'm still unable to complete setting up my new Freelancer account. I keep getting to the "verify your phone number" stage and it tells me that my phone number is already associated with another account. It's incredibly frustrating.
Added to that, there is no way to get any kind of support from Upwork. The chatbot just takes me in circles, always telling me I don't meet the eligibility requirements for Agent-based Support. I did get a response from someone in support who asked me to verify the phone number causing the issue, but I couldn't replyo it because they've apparently blocked all incoming emails to **Edited for Community Guidelines**
I don't want to give up but at this point I don't see any other options. Please, if there's anyone from Upwork who can help me, please reach out. Thank you!!

If you may have any other email - try to contact upwrok support with that & Explain the situation through email.
Also make Sure the OLD Account is not connected with your phone number any more.

1st - You make sure, they Allow you to Email them from your Current Email. (try to use Chat BOT for this. Should work to get the info)
2nd - If You Can Cahnge Your upwork account's email. Do it & contact from that Email.
3rd - When you get there reply, try to explain every situation carefully with no rush.

Best Solution for you: New Email + Contact Support + Explain The Situation & Why are you Asking for help from Different Email + Send Upwork the Current Account's info to make sure your New Email & Upwork account won't get blocked/banned by any chance.

Reference the Support ticket because you are contacting the proper email address. Otherwise click the Support link on the top of this page and leave a message like above in the Support part if the Community.
Also consider changing your phone number.

I'm unable to verify my phone number on my client account because it is already associated with your freelancer account while I'm giving the same mobile number used on my freelancer account it is saying "This number is being used by another account". Without verifying the mobile number I can't make my Job Post live. Can you please help me with this?

Hi Soma,
You can't use the same number on two separate accounts, so you must use a different phone number. Alternatively, you can create your client profile under the same freelancer account you already have. You can find more information on this help article on how you can do that.

I haven't created two different accounts. On Upwork you can switch between freelancer and client accounts with the same email ID. I'm using both freelancer and client on the same account to make the job post live from the client account it asks for phone number verification that's where I'm unable to verify my phone number on my client account because it is already associated with my freelancer account while I'm giving the same mobile number used on my freelancer account it is saying "This number is being used by another account"

When I attempt to apply for a job, I get redirected to verify my number page. When I type my number and click "text me" or "call me" it says "phone number already in use". Therefore, I'm unable to apply for jobs. Can anyone at Upwork provide me with specialized support to resolve this issue?

Ask customer support to reactivate your old account. You are not allowed to have a new account.
