I am having a similar issue. I am setting up a personal freelancer account and I need a phone number to proceed with the final step but my phone number is also being used for a client account which I need. Could someone advise please.

I just signed up for Upwork with my current email address **Edited for Community Guidelines** and I was asked to verify my phone number. When I typed in my phone number I was told that it was already linked to another account. I don't recall which email address this phone numbers is linked to. Is there a way I can answer some kind of security question to figure out which email address that phone number is linked to or get the phone number reassigned to my current email address?

Upwork doesn't allow me to verify my phone number.
I used to have another account that I now deleted so the number is no longer attached to another account.
But there is still a bug and it doesn't allow me to create job posts.
The support team is inexistent and I cannot open any support ticket.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with this. I want to clarify that having multiple accounts, even if you delete a previous one, isn't allowed and it's considered a serious violation of the Terms of Service.
I see that you've recently raised a support ticket regarding your concern. As soon as the next available agent gets your ticket in their queue, they'll contact you to assist you further.

I am also having this problem with Upwork saying my phone number is already in use. It seems to be almost impossible to contact a real person at Upwork. The AI bot just keeps sending me in circles and not connecting me to a real person either.

I already done the Government ID Verification and Video Verification. Now, I need to verify my phone number for sending a proposal, but the phone number is already in use, because I used the phone number to create another upwork account years ago . I barely use that account, so I completely forget the email, log in information. I registered a new upwork account by using a new email. I want to contact support for assistance to close my old upwork account and link my phone number to my new upwork account.

Im getting an error stating that my phone number is already in use. I have tried other email addresses or user names to log in to another account, but cant find anything. Im seeing answers to similar problems referencing a support team that I cannot find. Chat bots are useless and there is no phone number to call and speak to a human. The more I struggle with this the more I want to use a different service. Im surprised Upwork has lasted at all with the total lack of support the freelancers get on their issues. I cant even find where to submit a ticket and from what I have read it takes weeks to get a response. Maybe I should use Fiver and forget about Upwork.

I set up my Upwork account and applied for a job but when I get to the verify my phone number page it fails. There is a message saying, "Phone number already in use. Please, check it and try again. If you're still having problems, please contact support". I haven't seen anywhere I can contact support except here. I beleive the problem is that at some point in time in the past I had an Upwork account with another email. Problem is I can't find it so I have not idea how to fix the problem. The issue was never resolved. If it was, I would not have this issue of trying to find work and getting my phone number verified. It's frustrating! The solution should be simple. Give a user access to reset their account or create a new one.
The ticket was closed. They did not offer me any additional suggestions to reset my account.

I am trying to set up my account and when I put my phone number in, it shows that there is another account with it in use. Hi Chantell, I am in the same boat as you. I found two other accounts and closed them but still receive the error message that I can't verify the new one. When I try to log in to the old ones that I am aware of, it says the account is closed. If anyone here has insight I hope they can help. I went through several loops with the Chatbot to try to resolve it. I have not idea how to contact support directly.
