I am having a similar issue. I am setting up a personal freelancer account and I need a phone number to proceed with the final step but my phone number is also being used for a client account which I need. Could someone advise please.

I am extremely frustrated with the lack of customer support! I am trying to set up a new account but my phone number is stll associated with an old account that is CLOSED!!!
The chatbot just loops and is NO HELP!
I need this resolved ASAP, this is ridiculous. I would love to use your service, but if this is any indication of how things work, then I will pass.

I too am experiencing this error message: "Phone number already in use. Please, check it and try again. If you're still having problems, please contact support."
Unfortunately, the automated solutions offered by the chatbot have not been able to help me. Is there anyone at Upwork who can assist me? Or, is there anyone in the community who has a suggestion?

I have checked all my emails and none of them are comming up as possible emails in upwork. I don't know why my phone number isn't working and I don't know how to get support from a real person.

I am having trouble applying to jobs as a freelancer because I keep receiving an error message that says "You attempted to change your PIN too many times". The phone number associated with my account is correct, and I am not sure what else to do. A account was made using my phone number without my permission, I have all the proof that it is my phone number that has been used. my actuall account will not work now because it says my phone number is been used on someone else's account. Hi!
I tried upwork a long time ago, but I didnt do anything with it. It has been 5 years+ And that account is closed for good, no options to get it back.. But my phone number was attached to it. I am trying to give upwork another go but I cant accept jobs until I have a verified phone, and I cant use my phone number because it is attached to a closed account, I cant remove it because the account is closed.. I dont know what to do.

Hi. I see about 5,000 other users are having the same issue. Why dont you simply remove the feature if it is so troublesome. This issue appears to be dating back to 2018 and still in 2024 the issue remains. When i get to verify phone number page, the code does not arrive to my phone. PLEASE RESOLVE so i can move forward and post my first job. Very Frustrating...Thanks. Matt
