Phone Number is already in use

I am having a similar issue. I am setting up a personal freelancer account and I need a phone number to proceed with the final step but my phone number is also being used for a client account which I need. Could someone advise please.

I cannot publish my account because it says my phone number is already in use with another account. The chat bot isn't of any help. I would really appreciate some assitance. Thank you.

A account was made using my phone number without my permission, I have all the proof that it is my phone number that has been used. my actuall account will not work now because it says my phone number is been used on someone else's account. Can someone help me. I need my phone number at least removed from the other account please

Hi! 

I tried upwork a long time ago, but I didnt do anything with it. It has been 5 years+ And that account is closed for good, no options to get it back.. But my phone number was attached to it. I am trying to give upwork another go but I cant accept jobs until I have a verified phone, and I cant use my phone number because it is attached to a closed account, I cant remove it because the account is closed.. I dont know what to do.

Hi. I see about 5,000 other users are having the same issue. Why dont you simply remove the feature if it is so troublesome. This issue appears to be dating back to 2018 and still in 2024 the issue remains. When i get to verify phone number page, the code does not arrive to my phone. PLEASE RESOLVE so i can move forward and post my first job. Very Frustrating...Thanks. Matt

It's a phone number/account issue. I do NOT want to post either of those things in a public forum. And yes, I went through the "chat". It doesn't work and won't allow me to open a ticket. Can you escalate my issue and point me to a place to submit feedback around all of this?

I added my phone number to my mom's account because she is not tech savvy. I was very impressed with Upwork's freelancer's work, that I wanted to use it for my own personal company. However when I went to create a job post for my company, it asked me to verify my phone number. And since it was tied to her account, I could not create the job post. Could we add her phone number to her account and then add my phone number to my account? I would like to keep things separate since they are two separate companies. Don't want to mix financials. I hope that makes sense? Thanks!

Since the phone number is already attached to an active account, you will need to request the account owner to change the phone number directly from their account. Once done, you can try adding the phone number on your Upwork account.

so, apparently, my phone number is already in use in an account I don't have access to. I don't know the email, username, or anything to get into that account. I don't even remember setting this account up.

My "new" account is  not able to post a job without me verifying my phone number, which it says is connected to another account. 

there are no other options to verify other than the phone number.  I only have one phone number. 

Please help me with the next steps. Thanks
