Phone Number is already in use

I am having a similar issue. I am setting up a personal freelancer account and I need a phone number to proceed with the final step but my phone number is also being used for a client account which I need. Could someone advise please.

I just created my account but my number verification is failing saying the number is in use with another account. I've never used upwork before. Can someone. Please help.

I need some support here please. Trying to create an account, (but I guess I did?) I entered my phone number, and it said it was already in use, but I don't remember ever creating an account on this site... Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello, 

I'm also new to this world, and struggling with many unknown issues 😢 I hope the support team answer you soon.

But I guess it might happen either if you have entered your phone number wrongly or someone else has mistakenly typed your phone number instead of theirs.

Apparently, the only possible solution for now is to try another phone number of yours, if there's any available.

I cannot receive verification codes through my phone number because it says my phone number is already in use. I do not have another account with Upwork and this is my only, and first, account, which I just opened up today. This is my only mobile phone number and I do not have any other ones I can use. I can't work on jobs without phone verification. Can anybody help me with this problem?

When I tried to apply for a job, the system prompted me to verify my phone number. However, it kept showing the error message: "Phone number already in use". I tried to use Upwork chatbox to connect to someone but it also re-directed me to the forums.

Hi, I am having the same issue with my client account, I have tried severally to verify my phone number but there is no text message from upwork. And just yesterday, I opened upwork app to find a notification that my account has been suspended. I will be glad if I can get some assistance.

I closed a duplicate account to release the phone number and it didn't work. I am still receiving the same error when trying to apply for jobs.

I cannot apply for jobs because it says I entered my pin too many times but I never tried and when I go into my security options to add sms as a verification method, it does not send me a text message to complete the verification. This is the message I receive when I try to apply for jobs: 'You attempted to change your PIN too many times.' But its false because it doesn't give me an option to receive an sms verification code. When I try going to add sms as a 2FA, I don't receive any text message.

Listen, I am going to keep posting until I get an answer or a ticket is opened.
I had a ticket opened for this issue and it wasn't resolved because nobody wants to actually check for the problem and keep pointing to unrelated articles. The chatbot does the same thing and avoids submitting a ticket at all cost.


My issue:
I am not allowed to apply for jobs because when I "verify my phone number" after I hit apply, it says I put my PIN in too many times. Yes, I already verified my phone number through my account settings so no that's not the issue. I have 2FA on an app and phone is already verified and I recieve text for account verification just fine. This is only when I click apply on ALL jobs and the SMS verification pops up. Am I suspended or something? Nobody has helped me with this issue and I cannot submit a support ticket because the chatbot doesn't allow it unless I put in some ridiculous unrelated issue that I am having like with an API or something.
