Hi Levana,

We’ve designed the process of Adding a Direct to Local Bank payment method to be as straightforward as possible. To add your bank account:

  1. Go to Settings  Get Paid
  2. Click Add Method
  3. Click the Set Up button for your chosen method
  4. Enter your bank account details, including bank codes
  5. Choose a payment schedule and click Next

Important things to know:

  • For security reasons, your new payment method will become active in three days.
  • Check that the name on your bank account matches your verified name on Upwork. If your payment method was flagged for a name mismatch, please contact support to resolve the issue or add a new payment method.
  • You should also contact your bank if you're not sure you have the correct information, or if you received an error when you tried to enter it into our system.
  • Upwork charges $0.99 per Direct to Local Bank withdrawal. Any additional restrictions, timing regulations, and fees vary depending on your bank.
  • Be sure that you enter your bank information, including bank codes, correctly. We want you to get your money on schedule and any errors could result in a failed transfer or delay. If you've exceeded the character limit on the Name on Account field, please contact your bank to get an appropriate abbreviation.
    • Since some banks aren’t in our database or have recently changed their information, your bank details may not be recognized. In that case, you can enter your bank information manually by selecting the "enter branch address manually" option. On the pop-up that appears click "enter it manually." Once clicked, a new form will appear to let you enter your bank details. You may want to re-confirm the bank code and other information on file with your bank before entering changes manually in order to avoid potential problems with withdrawals.

If you have already checked the IFSC code with the bank, you have the option to enter the bank details manually by clicking the 'enter it manually' link. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to reply to this message.

Hi Sandeep,

Thank you for your reply. This is Ronna, stepping in for Ivy. If your bank confirms that you have the right sort code, please select the option to enter your bank address manually.

I'd like to share that we also accept digital bank accounts for billing and payments. However, please be aware that if you use a digital bank account, we may not be able to help you if you have trouble making a payment or receiving funds. Digital banks work through a partner bank to process transactions with Upwork. Due to that, tracing digital bank transactions is not always possible, and even when we can trace the transaction it may take a long time. You can learn more by visiting these helpful pages:

Thank you for getting back to us. Could you please confirm if you have received any error messages when trying to add your sort code manually? Could you please let us know if you tried using a different browser or incognito mode? Hi Shamik,

Thank you for sharing your concern. I'd like to let you know that some banks aren't in our database or have recently changed their information, which is why at times, your bank details may not be recognized. In this case, if your bank confirms that you have the right IFSC code, please select the option to enter your bank address manually by selecting the "enter branch address manually" option. On the pop-up that appears, click "enter it manually." Once clicked, a new form will appear to let you enter your bank details. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Hello sir I have the same problem I am also trying to adding my local bank account for payment method but the IFSC code which is correct, but it get rejected the IFSC code is (KKBK0006739). Can you please help me to resolve this too.

Hi Sumit,

Thank you for reaching out. Generally, this happens if your bank isn't using the Banker's Almanac, where bank information is stored, or if the bank information needs updating. If your bank hasn't listed their details there yet or has changed them over the years, the system might not be able to detect your bank. You might want to ask your bank to update their information in the Banker's Almanac if necessary.

You may also add them manually, by navigating to your Get Paid page and clicking the "Enter branch address manually". It will allow you to enter manually, and that's when you need to enter the details provided by your bank.

Hello Goksu,

Please check this helpful article for more information about the correct format of the sort codes. That said, since some banks aren’t in our database or have recently changed their information, your bank details may not be recognized. In that case, you can enter your bank information manually by selecting the "enter branch address manually" option. On the pop-up that appears click "enter it manually." Once clicked, a new form will appear to let you enter your bank details. You may want to re-confirm the sort code and other information on file with your bank before entering changes manually in order to avoid potential problems with withdrawals.
